Why Getting Scouted for Modeling Work is Better than Applying to a Modeling Agency Yourself

There are lots of people who dream of being a model. Obviously only a relatively small percentage of those people will be successful. The question is just how do you go about finding work as a model? There are a few options available but for the most part they come down to applying to a modeling agency yourself or getting scouted. Generally getting scouted is the better option for a couple of reasons, although it is far from the only way to become a model.

The biggest reason that you want to get scouted by a modeling agency rather than having to apply yourself is that there are a lot of scams out there in the modeling industry. This is the case in any career field where there are a lot of people who really want to get into it. The agency that you apply to may well require you to do things like take classes or get lots of photos taken so that they can represent you all the while knowing that you are never going to be a model.

Of course this can also happen if you are scouted for modeling work but it is less likely. When you walk into the agency they know full well that you are interested in being a model and that gives them quite a bit of leverage to exploit you. When you are scouted there is always a good chance that you are not all that interested in being a model. Besides which people in this situation tend to be more on their guard. Therefore you see less scams that way.

The other reason that you probably want to be scouted for modeling work rather than applying to an agency is that it can get really depressing applying to agencies. You will likely have to apply to several agencies in order to get yourself any work. The rejection from the ones that aren't interested can be tough to take. At least when you are scouted for work you know ahead of time that they are interested and so there is a lot less chance that you are going to be rejected by them, of course it can still happen.

Although in theory being scouted for modeling work is the better option, there is a major flaw here; it really takes a lot of luck. The odds that you will near to where a modeling agent happens to be are not all that good. Therefore you if you are really serious about being a model you are probably going to have to try more than one approach to finding work. In a perfect world you will be scouted to be a model but you had better be prepared to go into the modeling agency and apply yourself in the event that doesn't happen.
